HCA FC PEC 15 mL single-sided - Hook Clamp Assembled Front Contact Photo-electrochemical Cell
This is a horizontally mounted, single compartment photo-electrochemical cell. This cell allows several approaches to perform measurements in 2- or 3-electrode setups. It is designed to investigate performance of a thin film photo-anode (e.g. nanocrystalline material or conducting polymer) deposited on a rigid or flexible transparent substrate (typically FTO coated or uncoated borosilicate or fused quartz glass). The electrical connection to the photo-anode is provided by a Copper foil contact facing the sample from the front (i.e. touching the photo active film). The Copper contact stays dry during the experiment as it is located out of the sample sealing O-Ring outer diameter. The cathode (counter electrode) and reference electrode are mounted in a lid. The cell elements are made of PEEK. It well fits aqueous (EPDM/FKM O-Rings) and organic solvent (FFKM O-Rings) electrolyte requirements. The construction is gas-tight having gas inlet and outlet, which can be used to bubble the solution and evacuate gases from the chamber.

A thin film of interest deposited on a transparent glass or plastic foil is installed in the hook clamp assembled mount, facing the cell chamber. In 2-electrode setup, the counter electrode is placed in the socket close to the working electrode while the remaining socket is plugged. When 3-electrode setup is required, the reference electrode is placed close to the measured sample to limit the effect of electrolyte resistance, while the counter electrode occupies the remaining socket. Various auxiliary electrodes are suitable for this cell including metal wire, gauze and foil electrodes as well as non-metal electrodes. Typical applications include: basic photochemistry, photolytic water splitting, CO2 reduction, photoinduced charge separation and photocorrosion.
