Starting from $235 per sample, MSE Analytical Services offer professional Dilatometry and Thermal Expansion Coefficient (CTE) Testing Services using the NETZSCH DIL 402 PC or similar instrument.

Sample Requirements: ~6mm diameter or ~6mm x 6mm cross section and 20mm length. 2-3 samples should be provided for each material. 

Pricing: The price per sample is calculated based on a standard heating and cooling rate of 10 °C/min.  If you samples require different test conditions, please contact us for a quote. 

  • For the maximum test temperature up to 500 °C, the cost is $235 per sample
  • For the maximum test temperature between 500 and 1000 °C, the cost is $345 per sample
  • For the maximum test temperature between 1000 and 1600 °C, the cost is $485 per sample

Dilatometry is a method for measuring linear dimensional changes of a material as a function of temperature. The measurement may be performed over a temperature range (e.g. from room temperature to 500°C, 1000°C, or up to 1600°C), or a specific heating and cooling temperature program to simulate the firing and sintering processes, or a material’s application environment. The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) is defined as the degree of expansion divided by the change in temperature.

A precise understanding of thermal expansion behavior provides crucial insight into firing and sintering processes, the influence of additives, reaction kinetics and other important aspects of how materials respond to environmental changes. Typical applications include: the determination of the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), annealing studies, determination of glass transition point, softening point, densification, kinetics and sintering studies.
