A: During the functionalization process, some of the oxygen moities are reduced, and at the same time alkyl chains are added to the structure. Due to this changes in the composition the dispersability in water decreases and the dispersions are not stable. In order to dispersed it in water surfactants have to be added. Also rGO can be dispersed in low concentrations in NMP, DMF or MeOH.
A: When the alkyl amine is added the interlayer distance of the material is increased what is clearly observed in the XRD spectra, where the (002) peak shifts from 9-11º to around 5-6º. On the other hand, the % of N in the elemental analysis (2-4%) indicates the presence of the amine groups.
