Applications

Niobium Carbide (Nb2CTx) is a typical representative material among the emerging family of 2D layered transition metal carbides and/or nitrides referred to as MXenes. It has exhibited multiple advantages such as metallic conductivity, a plastic layer structure, small band gaps, and the hydrophilic nature of its functionalized surface. It is widely used for energy storage applications such as supercapacitors, lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and lithium–sulfur batteries. It also can be used for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding coatings, semiconductor and catalysis.

Nb2CTx is one of the materials with the few atomic layers (3 layers) configuration in MXenes. It possesses lower Fermi level and superior gravimetric capacitance than Ti3C2Tx (which is the most widely studied MXene). It is also one of the most promising electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries.
