Reasons why CO2 incubators require a special shaker

Air in CO2 cell culture incubators is about 95% normal air supplemented with 5% CO2 to mimic conditions in our bodies.
The bicarbonate anion, HCO–3,in our blood helps keep our blood buffered around pH 7.4.
Cell culture medium also contains HCO–3.
Cell culture incubators are humidified. If droplets of water condense on electronics, the water will quickly acidify.

Miniature Shaker KM CO2 and CO2-FL
The Miniature Shaker KM can tolerate up to 20% CO2. Two models are available. The basic model requires a hole to be placed in the incubator to accommodate the electrical line. The FL model has a flat line that can run between the incubator and the shut door without disturbing the air balance.

The clamping strip KM (0052 115) is extra. Only the tray with the rubber mat comes with the shakers. The clamping strip will work with the Miniature Shaker KM Akku as well.

KM Shaker Accessories
The KM 2 Akku is about the same size as the miniature shakers intended for CO2 incubators. All three have the option of two types of trays that can hold flasks and test tube racks.
The KM mini universal tray is slightly smaller than the lipped based with the rubber pad. If a spill occurs, liquids flow over the edges of the tray and into the base. In the case of the standard KM, spills (if they occur) flow through the holes in the tray.
The KM series is unique, the basic platform accommodates most petri dishes and tissue culture flasks, which reduces the required number of clamping strip options. The universal tray accommodates most Erlenmeyer flasks used for cell culture. One or more clamping strips may be ordered for the flask. They clamp to the tray that comes with the shaker.
