Solid-State Electrolyte Companies Singapore

Solid-state electrolyte can be categorized into solid polymer electrolyte (SPEs), inorganic solid electrolyte (ISEs) and composite polymer electrolyte (CPEs). SPEs are polymer matrix with Li salt dissolved. Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) is the most widely used SPEs.  Ion transport in PEO mainly occurs in amorphous phase, whereas the crystalline phase can be an obstacle for ion transport. ISEs have been widely used and studied for recent research. They have high ionic conductivity and mechanical strength but poor interfacial contact with electrodes.  ISEs can be classified into oxynitride (LiPON), NASICON, perovskite type, garnet type, lithium argyrodites and lithium sulfides. CPEs are composed of SPE matrix and inorganic fillers, which adopts the advantages of SPEs and ISEs for improving mechanical strength, ionic conductivity, and interfacial contact with electrodes.

MSE Supplies offers various solid state electrolyte materials. The followings are the overview for inorganic solid electrolyte.

Oxynitrides (LiPON)

Amorphous LiPON thin film can be fabricated by radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputter coating using  lithium Phosphate (Li3PO4) as a target under a nitrogen or ammonia atmosphere at room temperature.

NASICONs

Ionic conductors with NASICON-type structure are crystalline phosphates with general formula AM2(PO4)3 formula (A = Li, Na or K; M = Ge, Zr or Ti). Lithium aluminum titanium phosphate (LATP) and Lithium aluminum germanium phosphate (LAGP) are the most widely studied NASICON-type solid electrolyte.

Lithium Ionic Conductivity:  2.75 x 10-4 S/cm at room temperature (25C)

Lithium ion conductivity: up to 5 x 10-4 S/cm at room temperature.

LAGP is superior to LATP because of the better electrochemical stability of the LAGP.

Garnet-type
The general chemical formula of garnet structure is A3B2(XO4)3, where A = La and X = Zr, Nb, Ta and B = Al, Ga, Ge, Fe. LLZO is one of the popular garnet type ISE due to its high room temperature Li-ion conductivity. LLZO doped with Ta, Al, Ga, Nb or Te can further improve the ionic conductivity. Though Garnet type SSEs show high ionic conductivity, they are sensitive to H20 and CO2.

MSE Supplies offers various LLZO powder and membranes with different doping.

Argyrodite

The chemical composition and structure of lithium argyrodite is Li6PS5X, where X = Cl, Br, I. Argyrodite -type crystalline materials are promising solid electrolytes for all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries because of their high ionic conductivity (up to > 3 mS/cm at room temperature), good processability and excellent electrochemical stability (> 7V vs lithium).

MSE Supplies offers various argyrodite solid electrolytes from Ampcera Inc. which is the first company that successfully commercialized the Argyrodite-type Li6PS5Cl solid electrolyte material.
