Diamond / C-BN Cut-Off Wheels

MSE Supplies offers both diamond and carbon boron nitride (C-BN) abrasive cut-off wheels from Metkon Technologies. These cut-off wheels work perfectly with Metkon Abrasive Cutting Machines and are compatible with a variety of other abrasive cutting machines. Diamond and C-BN cut-off wheels are used to cut super hard materials since they are the two hardest materials in the world. 

Selecting the right cut-off wheel protects your samples from burns and distortion. In addition, it is the best way to save time and money on consumables. Correct cutting produces specimens in perfect condition for the next preparation steps. Diamond is composed purely of carbon, therefore diamond cut-off wheels are not appropriate for use with samples that have a high chemical affinity with carbon at high temperatures (such as iron, cobalt, and nickel).

Beyond just considering the material of the cut-off wheel is thinking about what concentration (diamond density) is best for your application. In general, low concentration blades are recommended for brittle materials like ceramics & minerals. Ductile substances, ones with a high fraction of metals or plastics, are suggested to be cut with a high concentration blade.

In addition to the previous blade variables, more factors for consideration include diamond bond (metal plate), diamond size (fine or medium), blade diameter and blade thickness.
