Background
The V5 epitope tag is derived from a small epitope (Pk) present on the P and V proteins of the paramyxovirus of simian virus (SV5). The V5 tag is usually used with all 14 amino acids (GKPIPNPLLGLDST), although it has also been used with a shorter 9-amino acid version for certain applications. This tag is commonly used for the detection, quantification, and purification of recombinant proteins through techniques such as Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, and immunofluorescence. Due to its relatively small size, the V5 tag typically does not interfere with the biological activity or localization of the tagged protein, making it a versatile tool in molecular and cell biology research.
