How to Quantify the Quality of Graphene? Scientists Have Provided an Answer
Posted by MSE Supplies Admin on
Scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Ames Laboratory have uncovered a previously unrecognized analytical characterization criterion that accurately quantifies the quality of 2D materials. Specifically, they analyzed graphene using low energy electron diffraction. Normally the diffraction results are expected to be sharp and clear peaks that represent the perfection of the material; however, the graphene results also included a broad diffusion band in addition to the aforementioned peaks. While the cause for this broad diffusion band’s presence is not yet fully understood, the scientists at Ames Laboratory theorize that it is due to the confinement of graphene electrons into a...

The potential of graphene for batteries becomes more and more obvious. Recently, Saint Jean Carbon announced that it has started the design and build of graphene based lithium-ion batteries. SJC Stated that a single layer of graphite with 99.999999%C and single atom thickness will be used to create the anode. The company expects to reach extremely high performance lithium-ion battery application in two year with internal R&D. Graphene has been proven to be a wonder material. Its unique honeycomb lattice structure provides numerous extraordinary material properties. It is extremely light and mechanically flexible with a large surface area. It also...

CVD Single Layer Graphene Significantly Enhances Fuel Cell Efficiency
Posted by MSE Supplies on
Graphene is increasingly studied as a promising platform for developing novel separation technologies in applications such as fuel cells. This interest has arisen because graphene is a maximally thin membrane that, once perforated with atomic accuracy, may allow ultrafast and highly selective sieving of gases, liquids, dissolved ions and other species of interest. High quality single layer graphene films can be ordered from msesupplies.com. It is known that Andre Geim and co-workers (Nature, A.K. Geim et.al 2014), discovered proton transfer through single layer graphene and other 2D materials. Also graphene is known for its dense lattice packing structure, inhibiting the passage...

Ultralight mechanical watch enabled by graphene
Posted by MSE Supplies on
An ultralight high-performance mechanical watch made with graphene is unveiled today in Geneva at the Salon International De La Haute Horlogerie thanks to a unique collaboration. The University of Manchester has collaborated with watchmaking brand Richard Mille and McLaren F1 to create world’s lightest mechanical chronograph by pairing leading graphene research with precision engineering. The RM 50-03 watch was made using a unique composite incorporating graphene to manufacture a strong but lightweight new case to house the delicate watch mechanism. The graphene composite known as Graph TPT™ weighs less than previous similar materials used in watchmaking. Graphene is the world’s...
