What to know before you buy

This collection covers cathode battery materials for lithium-ion, sodium-ion and solid-state research, as powders and as ready-coated electrode sheets.

NMC cathode options include NMC 811 cathode powder, single crystal NMC 631, NMC 111 at 3 microns, and an NMCOH811 precursor for making your own NMC 811. Phosphate cathodes include EV-grade LFP with high press density and LMFP in two Mn to Fe ratios. For sulfide solid-state cells, Ampcera offers LiNbO3 coated NMC 622, single crystal NMC 631, Ni82 and Ni90, where the coating limits reactions with the electrolyte.

For sodium-ion work, there is sodium iron phosphate, NFPP cathode powder and Prussian white. To skip slurry prep, NMC811 single side coated aluminum foil and double side LFP and NMC811 foils are ready to punch. Super C45 and acetylene black carbons, LA133 binder and a MnO2 electrode round it out. See Composite Cathodes for solid-state electrode design.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which NMC cathode should I choose?

Higher nickel gives more capacity but less thermal and cycling stability. NMC 111 is a stable baseline. Single crystal NMC 631 resists particle cracking. NMC 811 gives high capacity for studies on nickel-rich cathodes.

When should I use LFP or LMFP instead of NMC?

LFP offers long cycle life, thermal stability and no cobalt or nickel, at a lower voltage. LMFP adds manganese to raise the voltage and energy compared with LFP. The EV-grade LFP has a press density above 2.5 g/cm3, useful for dense electrodes.

Why use LiNbO3 coated cathodes for solid-state cells?

Bare oxide cathodes react with sulfide solid electrolytes at the interface, which raises resistance. A thin LiNbO3 coating acts as a buffer. Ampcera offers it on NMC 622, single crystal NMC 631, single crystal NMC Ni90 and Ni82.

Should I buy cathode powder or coated cathode foil?

Buy powder when you want to study formulation, loading or coating method. Buy coated foil, such as double side LFP coated aluminum foil, when you want a consistent reference electrode for testing separators, electrolytes or anodes. Single side foil suits coin cells and double side foil suits stacked pouch cells.

Can I order cathode materials in larger amounts or a custom composition?

Yes. For larger quantities of a listed cathode, use the bulk order request form. For a different composition, particle size, coating or electrode loading, send your requirements through the quote request form.
