HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor
Functions
A synthetic analog of lovastatin. Blocks cholesterol and isoprenoid biosynthesis via inhibition of HMG-CoA reductase. Induces apoptosis in various cell lines. Causes cell cycle arrest in early G1 phase. Clinically useful antilipemic agent.
Application Procedures
First dissolved in DMSO (up to 25 mg/ml) or in Ethanol (up to 35 mg/ml), then diluted to aqueous buffer. Solutions in DMSO or Ethanol may be stored at -20°C for up to 2 months.
