HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor
Functions
Blocks cholesterol and isoprenoid biosynthesis via inhibition of HMG-CoA reductase (Ki=1nM for acid form). Induces apoptosis in various cell lines. Causes cell cycle arrest in early G1 phase. Clinically useful antihyperlipemic agent. Cell permeable.
Application Procedures
First dissolved in DMSO (up to 25 mg/ml) or in Ethanol (up to 25 mg/ml), then diluted to aqueous buffer. Solutions in DMSO or Ethanol may be stored at -20°C for up to 2 months.
