MSE Analytical Services offer professional X-ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy Analytical Service using PANalytical Axios XRF instrument.

XRF (X-ray fluorescence) is a non-destructive analytical technique used to determine the elemental composition of materials. XRF analyzers determine the chemistry of a sample by measuring the fluorescent (or secondary) X-ray emitted from a sample when it is excited by a primary X-ray source. Each of the elements present in a sample produces a set of characteristic fluorescent X-rays ("a fingerprint") that is unique for that specific element, which is why XRF spectroscopy is an excellent technology for qualitative and quantitative analysis of material composition.

  • XRF testing is semi-quantitative and should be used as a reference for elemental content percentages. Due to inherent limitations of the technique, especially its lower stability and accuracy in detecting light elements (C, N, O, F), it is recommended to use alternative methods if high accuracy is required.

  • Measurable Element Range: The standard detectable range is from Sodium (11Na) to Uranium (92U). If detection of C, N, O, or F is required, please indicate this in the notes.

  • Sample Quantity Requirements:

    • Powder samples: Minimum of 2 grams is required. Grinding is necessary if:

      1. The particles are too large (cannot pass through a 200-mesh sieve);

      2. The powder cannot be compressed into a solid pellet (boric acid must be added for grinding and pressing).

    • Bulk or film samples: The size should be between 2.5 cm and 4.5 cm. Please clearly mark the testing surface (which must be flat and smooth). Ensure the sample is as dry as possible before testing.

    • Liquid samples: At least 20 mL is required.

  • Samples with carbon content exceeding 10% should be ashed prior to testing.

  • Detection Limit: The detection limit of XRF is approximately 200 ppm. If the element concentration is below this threshold, XRF may not be suitable. For elements below 100 ppm, the results should be considered for reference only, as instrumental noise peaks may exceed this level. Please choose the testing method with caution.

Typical applications are: wide range calibration for low alloy, ferritic and austenitic steels, wide range calibration of Al alloys, wide range calibration of titanium alloys, analysis of low alloy steels, analysis of stainless steels, analysis of tool steels, analysis of cast iron and analysis of iron ore samples prepared as fused beads.

Analytical Service Minimum order requirement: $250 per order. A $200 handling fee will be applied if order is below $250.

* Note: Data analysis service is not included in the list price.

Highlights: High Quality Data, Competitive Pricing, Technical Support by Scientists.

Please contact sales@msesupplies.com for additional information and instructions on our Analytical Services program. Confirmation of the sample(s) requirements, SDS sheets and additional information is needed prior to processing the Analytical Service order.
