A laboratory pH meter reads the voltage across a glass electrode and turns it into a pH value. What separates one model from the next is resolution, how many calibration points it takes, and whether it also reads ion concentration or conductivity. MSE Supplies stocks benchtop and handheld meters from compact entry-level units up to high-precision pH and ion meters.
Benchtop or handheld
Benchtop meters give a bigger display, a stand to hold the electrode and usually a finer resolution. Handheld meters suit field work and moving between benches. If the meter is going to sit in one place, the benchtop version is easier to live with.
pH only, or pH and ion
A pH/ion meter supports ion-selective electrodes, so the same instrument can read fluoride, nitrate, ammonia and others once you fit the right electrode. If ion measurement is even a possibility later, the pack versions save buying a second meter.
