What to know before you buy
This collection carries aluminum powder in three common wrought alloy grades, all made for additive manufacturing (3D printing). The choice comes down to the alloy your part design calls for and the particle size your printer or process accepts.
The MSE PRO 6061 aluminum powder is a general-purpose aluminum, magnesium and silicon alloy with good corrosion resistance. The MSE PRO 7075 aluminum powder is a zinc-alloyed grade known for high strength. The MSE PRO 2024 aluminum powder is a copper-alloyed grade often used where fatigue strength matters.
Labs use these powders for laser powder bed fusion trials, alloy development, sintering studies and coating work. Check each listing for the available particle size ranges and pack sizes. For other alloys or particle size distributions, send a quote request with your target composition and size range. More background on uses is in Diverse Applications of Additive Manufacturing Metal Powders.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which aluminum powder alloy should I choose?
Start from the alloy your part or study specifies. 6061 is a general-purpose grade with good corrosion resistance. 7075 is chosen for high strength. 2024 is chosen where fatigue strength matters. If you are comparing printability across grades, ordering small amounts of each is a common first step.
What particle size do I need for additive manufacturing?
Particle size depends on the process. Powder bed fusion systems usually call for a finer, narrower distribution than directed energy deposition or cold spray. Check your machine maker's powder specification, then compare it with the size ranges shown on each product listing before you order.
How should aluminum powder be stored and handled?
Fine aluminum powder is reactive and can burn or form explosive dust clouds. Keep it sealed and dry, away from ignition sources, and handle it in a ventilated area or inert glove box. Ground equipment to avoid static discharge, and follow the safety data sheet for the grade you buy.
Can you supply a different aluminum alloy or particle size?
Yes. We produce custom alloys and particle sizes on request. Send the target composition, size distribution and quantity through the quote request form. For repeat orders of a listed grade in larger amounts, use the bulk order request form.
