Functions
A nitric oxide (NO) donor. Spermine NONOate dissociates to NO and spermine in a pH-dependent manner. The half-life of spermine NONOate in 0.1 M phosphate buffer at pH 7.4 is 39 minutes at 37°C or 230 minutes at room temperature. Dissociation is essentially instantaneous at pH 5.0. Spermine NONOate is a widely used NO donor which can be employed in a variety of biological systems.
