Cancer stem cell inhibitor
Functions
A polyether ionophore with antibiotic and anti-cancer properties. It induces cell death in some types of cancer cells such as breast, lung, gastric cancer, leukemia and osteosarcoma. Displays selective toxicity for cancer stem cells. Induces rapid mitochondrial hyperpolarization. Induces selective cytotoxicity to MCF-7 mammosphere cells via the hedgehog signaling pathway. Reduces doxorubicin resistance of breast tumor cells by inhibiting drug efflux pump expression and activity. Kills cancer stem cells by sequestering iron.
Application Procedures
First dissolved in DMSO (up to 40 mg/ml), then diluted to aqueous buffer. Solutions in DMSO may be stored at -20°C for up to 3 months.
