Description
Elastase is a single polypeptide chain of 240 amino acid residues with a molecular mass of approximately 25.9 kDa, containing four disulfide bridges. Synthesized as an inactive zymogen (proelastase), it is activated by trypsin-mediated proteolysis at the N-terminal. Elastase has broad specificity, hydrolyzing elastin, hemoglobin, casein, fibrin, and substrates like N-Succinyl-Ala-Ala-Ala-p-nitroanilide (TBP0108). In research, elastase is applied in cell culture, ELISA techniques, and elastase inhibitory assays.
