Orchid Scientific Elevated Plus Maze
The Elevated Plus Maze is a behavioral test used to measure anxiety in laboratory animals, primarily rodents. It is widely applied as:
- A screening test for putative anxiolytic or anxiogenic compounds.
- A general research tool in neurobiological anxiety research.
The model is based on the animal’s aversion to open spaces and tendency to be thigmotaxic (preference for enclosed spaces).
Anxiety is expressed by the animal spending more time in the enclosed arms of the maze.
