Barium Fluoride (BaF2) is a colorless to white solid that is sensitive to moisture. It is a well-known materials for optical coating for infrared spectroscopy that can be used for fuel oil analysis. Conversely, it is used as electrical insulator in semiconductor devices. It is also considered as the most promising material for a functional coating on the thermionic-thermophotovoltaic cell surface as a member of Barium-based compounds.
