Calcium fluoride (CaF2) is a white insoluble solid used as an evaporation material for thin film optical coatings. Its major application is for manufacturing optical components such as windows and lenses, which are widely used in thermal imaging systems, spectroscopy, telescopes, and excimer lasers. CaF2 thin film coating is transparent over a broad range from ultraviolet (UV) to infrared (IR) frequencies. Its low refractive index reduces the need for anti-reflection coatings.
