Unlike spherical mirrors, which will focus collimate light into a spot, cylindrical mirrors can reduce the light in one dimension. Their advantage over cylindrical lenses is that they do not exhibit dispersive effects, thus do not introduce chromatic aberration. They are widely used in laser application to generate laser lines.
