Introduction
Titanium niobium oxide (TiNb2O7 or TNO) is a very promising new anode material for lithium ion batteries. This crystalline mixed metal oxide has attracted strong interest as the alternative anode replacing traditional graphite anodes or Li4Ti5O12 (LTO). In comparison to Li4Ti5O12 (LTO), which has a maximum capacity of 175 mAh/g, TNO offers a higher discharge capacity (>255 mAh/g) and efficiency. TNO’s higher working voltage mitigates the risk of lithium dendrite formation during fast charging, enhancing safety and reliability. This makes TNO particularly advantageous for applications requiring high power, such as heavy duty electric vehicles and electric energy storage. By integrating TNO into lithium-ion batteries, faster-charging, longer-lasting, and safer energy storage systems are being developed.
