Overview
The Radial Arm Maze is a classic behavioral testing apparatus used to study short-term memory and spatial learning in rodents, especially rats and mice. It consists of a central platform with multiple arms radiating outward—typically eight spokes.
Experimental Use
- Designed to test whether rodents can remember which arms they’ve already visited.
- Food pellets are placed at the end of each arm.
- The animal must retrieve each pellet without revisiting any arm, indicating memory performance.
