Functions

Azoramide is a modulator of the unfolded protein response (UPR). It improves endoplasmic reticulum (ER) protein folding and activates ER chaperone capacity to protect cells against ER stress. It displayed potent anti-diabetic activity in two mouse models by improving insulin sensitivity and pancreatic β cell function. Azoramide increased SERCA expression leading to enhanced calcium retention in the ER indicating calcium homeostasis as a possible mechanism for its anti-diabetic acitivty.

Application Procedures

First dissolved in DMSO (up to at least 25 mg/ml) or in Ethanol (up to at least 25 mg/ml), then diluted to aqueous buffer. Solutions in DMSO or Ethanol may be stored at -20°C for up to 3 months.
