Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) Analytical Service

GPC analytical service is used to detect the molecular weight and distribution of polymer materials and analyze the content of each component of the material.

Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) is a type of size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), that separates high molecular weight or colloidal analytes on the basis of size or diameter, typically in organic solvents. The technique is often used for the analysis of polymers. 

Sample requirements:

Sample Amount: For GPC testing, powder samples should be no less than 10 mg, and liquid samples should be 5–10 mL.

Solubility Confirmation: Please ensure that your sample is soluble in the specified mobile phase before submission. For samples that are poorly soluble, it is recommended that you dissolve them yourself prior to sending. The dissolved sample should be clear, homogeneous, and not clog the filter.

Filtration Requirements: Once dissolved, samples in organic solvents should be filtered through a 0.45 μm membrane, while aqueous samples should be filtered through a 0.22 μm membrane. The recommended sample concentration is generally 2–5 mg/mL. Please note that some sample loss may occur during filtration, so we recommend sending powder form if possible.

Molecular Weight Ranges for Different Mobile Phases:

DMF: 3,000 – 1,000,000

THF: 500 – 2,000,000

Aqueous: 300 – 500,000

Chloroform: 500 – 2,000,000

For samples near the upper or lower limits, results may be less accurate. In particular, samples below the lower limit may overlap with the solvent peak, making them difficult to resolve.

High-Temperature Conditions: For high-temperature GPC analysis, please ensure that your sample is thermally stable at the testing temperature and will not decompose.
