    Applications 

    Lutetium (Lu) is a rare earth element that belongs to the lanthanide series. It can be used in alkylation, hydrogenation, and polymerization and also as catalysts in petroleum cracking in refineries. Other applications include as additives in lens materials, magnetic bubble memory devices and as phosphor in light-emitting diode light bulbs.
