In this article, we highlight recent research work using our products that have been presented in peer reviewed journals.

 A collaborating group of researchers that spans the globe (USA, Canada, and China) and six different universities published a paper on lithium battery materials. In this paper they used two different materials purchased from MSE Supplies, Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide cathode powder (specifically LiNi0.33Mn0.33Co0.33O2, NMC111) and Lithium Cobalt Oxide (LiCoO2, LCO) cathode powder

The research is on suppressing dendritic growth on lithium metal anodes which consumes the electrolyte, diminishes the coulombic efficiency, and can cause an internal short leading to cell detonation.   They sought to reduce this dendritic growth by increasing the adhesion of a LiAl coating on the electrode by dipping the bare Li in a AlCl3/Tetrahydrofuran solution.

They found that the greater adhesion of the LiAl coating did suppress the dendritic growth which in turned improved cycling stability.  It even enhanced full cell performance in carbonate electrolytes without any additives. For example, with a LiNi0.33Co0.33Mn0.33O2 (found here at MSE Supplies) electrode, the capacity retention is increased from 59.8% to 88.7% at 1 C rate for 120 cycles.
